You can search using four basic criteria, which are described below.
The Keyword search finds the type of data product you are looking for. For example, if you type "ocean" in the Keyword field, it will return a list of data products containing data pertaining to oceans. Other examples of keywords you might use include an instrument name such as "MODIS," a satellite name such as "Terra," parameters such as "geolocation" or "radiation," or data product shortnames such as "OMTO3." The Keyword field is required to retrieve results for your search.
'OR' searching is available: volcano OR sulfurThe Time Span search restricts your keyword search to data products that have data within the time span you specify. The time span can be specified in any unambiguous date format (for example, "Oct 1 2005" to "Oct 4 2005" or "10/1/05" to "10/4/05," etc.), as long as the formats used in the From and To fields are consistent. To expand on this example, if you want cloud reflectance data between for this time span, your search parameters will be "cloud reflectance" for the Keyword and "10-1-2005" to "10-4-2005" for the time span. If you do not specify a time span, it will default to a time span from Jan. 1, 1978, to the current date.
The Location search limits your keyword search to data products that have data over the location you specify. The location can be specified by the name of the area you are looking for (for example, "Kansas" or "Tokyo Bay") or by the geographic coordinates of that location in the form of "(minLat,minLon),(maxLat,maxLon)". Mirador recognizes many conventional formats for specifying a location (for example, "5N 15S 12E 4W"). You can combine the location search with the time span search; if you want geolocation data over Kansas during 2005, your search paramaters will be "geolocation" for the Keyword, "Kansas" for the Location, and "Jan 1 2005" to "Dec 31 2005" for the time span. If you do not specify a location, it will default to "Worldwide."
The Event search allows you to refine your keyword search to data pertaining to a certain geographical event. For example, if you want data relating to Hurricane Katrina, you can enter "Katrina" into the Event field, and it will return data related to Hurricane Katrina. You can specify a location and time span along with an event; for example, if you want AIRS Air Quality data over Maryland for Jan. 1 to Feb. 1, 2005, you will enter "Airs" for the keyword, "Maryland" for the location, "Ozone" for the event, and "Jan 1 2005" to "Feb 1 2005" for the time span. The Event field is optional and has no default.
If you want geolocation data over Louisiana during Hurricane Katrina between Aug. 28 and Aug. 30, 2005, you will search on "geolocation" for the Keyword, "Aug 28 2005" to "Aug 30 2005" for the time span, "new orleans" for the Location, and "katrina" for the Event.
